30th Celebration Sylveon ex Box: What the September 16 Box Really Contains

Published on August 16, 2026·Updated on August 16, 2026·By Antoine

The 30th Celebration Sylveon ex Box releases on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, alongside its night-themed counterpart, the Greninja ex Box. Each box holds one foil promo card, its oversize version and 4 booster packs from the anniversary expansion. US MSRP is $21.99, and some preorders are already climbing way past reasonable.

What is inside the Sylveon ex Box on September 16?

Three things, nothing more: one foil Sylveon ex promo card, the same card as a foil oversize version for display, and 4 booster packs from the 30th Celebration expansion. It is the classic Pokémon ex box format, applied to the anniversary line. The box itself spells it out: 1 promo card, 1 oversize card, 4 boosters.

The card is worth a close look. Sylveon ex, evolving from Eevee, shows 270 HP as a Psychic type, with an attack called Colorful Harmony: 50 damage for each type of Basic Energy attached to all of your Pokémon. A rainbow-deck mechanic, illustrated by 5ban Graphics, numbered MEP 100 with the 30th anniversary medallion. The gold logo on the top corner of the box says it plainly: this wave is the anniversary one, not a regular set.

Sylveon ex Box or Greninja ex Box: which one should you pick?

Both boxes release the same day, at the same price, with the same contents. Only the Pokémon and the mood change: pokemon.com introduces them with Sylveon ex representing the day and Greninja ex representing the night. The Sylveon box leans turquoise and soft pink, the Greninja box goes dark purple.

Card-wise, Greninja ex plays in another weight class for raw power: 300 HP, Water type, a Stealthy Slash that does 30 damage for each damage counter on that Pokémon, sniping included, and an Aqua Edge at 160. Sylveon ex caps at 270 HP but Colorful Harmony scales fast in a multi-type deck. My take, as the guy who sees both audiences at the counter: the Eevee collector grabs Sylveon without blinking, the player who wants big numbers goes Greninja.

How much does the box cost, and why be wary of preorders?

The US MSRP is $21.99, straight from the published price list of the line. In Europe, as of August 15, 2026, most specialist shops still show "price to come" on their preorder pages. Based on the ex boxes from previous blocks, the expected European range sits around 25 to 30 euros.

Hence my warning: we have already spotted one French preorder at 119.99 euros for this very box. That is a speculation price, not a retail price. The 30th anniversary line will be mass-produced and stocked everywhere, supermarkets included. Waiting for shops to publish real prices costs you nothing: there is no sign of a shortage at launch, and paying four times MSRP for an unreleased product makes no sense.

What makes 30th Celebration booster packs special?

Everything shines. Each booster from the expansion contains 5 foil cards plus one holographic Basic Energy, and one of those cards is always a Pikachu from a run of 30 exclusive illustrations, each by a different artist. The expansion lines up about 190 cards in total, including a 158-card main set and an anniversary series of classic reprints, with a new rarity thrown in.

In practice, the 4 boosters in the Sylveon ex Box guarantee 4 of those Pikachu, identical or not, while the full run of 30 is chased pack after pack. That is the real engine of this wave: the set collects at least as well as it plays.

What else releases on September 16 around the box?

The Sylveon ex Box does not arrive alone: seven products open the wave that day. The Elite Trainer Box with its 9 boosters, the Poster Collection with three promo cards of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, two Tech Sticker Collections featuring Lucario or Alolan Exeggutor, and two small Eevee formats, a 2-pack blister and a Knock Out Collection, at $9.99 each in the US.

The Poster Collection is the other item I am watching for the decoration crowd: a poster gathering more than 160 cards, plus the three legendary birds of Kanto as foil promos. Articuno happens to be the only one of the three we carry as a lamp: the Articuno LED Poké Ball on a wooden base features the ice bird laser-engraved, at 29.99 euros. Same logic for the sticker collections: if Lucario is your Pokémon, the Lucario LED Poké Ball on a wooden base gives it three dimensions rather than a sticker.

After September: Eevee keeps leading the line

The rest of the calendar confirms the Eevee family as the through line of this anniversary. October 2 brings the Binder Collection, the 6-pack booster bundle and the mini tins. October 30, the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks, two all-foil 60-card decks we covered in our article on the 30th anniversary Espeon and Umbreon decks. And on November 6, the top of the line: the Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections, the Ditto Premium Collection and the Mew and Mewtwo Figure Collections.

To place the Sylveon ex Box within the whole line, price by price, we keep the full list of 30th anniversary products and prices up to date. And if Eevee's glow speaks to you more than the cards do, our collection of light-up Poké Balls covers the whole family, Eevee and its evolutions included.

Frequently asked questions about the 30th Celebration Sylveon ex Box

Is the Sylveon ex Box already up for preorder, and at what price?
Yes, specialist shops have opened preorders, but most still display "price to come" as of mid-August 2026. The reference is the $21.99 US MSRP. Beyond roughly 30 euros in Europe, you are paying speculation, not product.

Is the Sylveon ex card in the box a new card?
It is a promo card numbered MEP 100, specific to this box, with the 30th anniversary medallion: 270 HP, Psychic type, Colorful Harmony dealing 50 damage per type of Basic Energy in play. The oversize version repeats the same 5ban Graphics artwork, for display only.

How is this different from the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks of October 30?
The September 16 box is a collector's product: one promo, one oversize card and boosters to open. The Battle Decks are 60-card decks ready to play out of the box. Two different uses, two different dates, two different budgets.

Is there really a Pikachu in every 30th Celebration booster?
Yes. Every booster contains 5 foil cards including one Pikachu from 30 exclusive illustrations by 30 different artists, plus one holographic Basic Energy. The 4 boosters of the Sylveon ex Box therefore guarantee 4 of those Pikachu.

Is Greninja ex stronger than Sylveon ex?
On paper, Greninja ex brings 300 HP against 270 and hits for 160 with Aqua Edge. Sylveon ex answers with Colorful Harmony, which beats those numbers in a deck built around several Energy types. For playing, Greninja is the safe pick; for collecting, it is a day-versus-night matter of taste.

Where do Eevee and its evolutions appear across the 30th anniversary line?
Everywhere: a foil Eevee card in the September 16 blister and Knock Out Collection, Sylveon ex in this box, Espeon ex and Umbreon ex in the October 30 decks, then the Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections on November 6. On our side, the Eevee crystal LED Poké Ball extends the same family as a night light, at 29.99 euros.
