The 30th Anniversary Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks arrive on 30 October 2026. Each one holds 60 fully shiny cards, ready to play straight out of the box, plus an exclusive Illustration Rare style promo, a playmat, a deck case and a coin. They are sold separately, so you have to pick between the Psychic evolution and the Dark one.
What each deck contains
One word sets these two boxes apart: shiny. All 60 cards are, not just the headline one. That is unusual for an entry-level product, where you normally find a handful of rares buried in standard commons.
The rest of the contents is identical between the two boxes:
- 60 shiny cards, built around Espeon ex or Umbreon ex
- 1 exclusive promo card in the Illustration Rare style
- 1 deck case in the anniversary colours
- 1 playmat
- 1 exclusive coin
The promo card is what genuinely changes between the two boxes, and it is no throwaway extra.
Espeon ex or Umbreon ex: what actually separates them
Both decks are sold on their own and nothing forces you to buy the pair. Here is what really differs.

If you are torn, the promo is the best tiebreaker. Zeraora is a Mythical Pokémon handed out almost exclusively through limited events, and its cards have historically been more sought after than Victini's. If the plan is to keep the box sealed, the Umbreon ex deck starts ahead. If the plan is to play, decide on type instead: Psychic and Dark do not cover the same weaknesses.
Why these two, and not the others
Eevee has nine evolutions. The Pokémon Company picked two to close out the 30th anniversary year, and that choice was no coin toss.
Since the second generation, Umbreon has been the most requested evolution in the family. Its nocturnal design with yellow rings has made it a lasting favourite well beyond the card game crowd. Espeon is its daytime counterpart, released in the same game, evolving the same way bar one detail: the time of day. Offering them together sells a pair, not two isolated products.
That day and night duo also explains why the two boxes look so alike. One does not really go without the other, and collectors picking up both are not doing it by accident.
The ones left out
Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon are not part of this wave. That makes sense on a release calendar, two decks cannot carry nine evolutions, but it does leave a chunk of the audience aside.
Sylveon actually gets its own moment six weeks earlier: the September 16 Sylveon ex Box gives it a 270 HP promo card, its oversize version and 4 boosters from the anniversary expansion.
If you care about an evolution missing from the line-up, a display piece is still an option. When and how to get them
The release is set for 30 October 2026, simultaneously across the countries concerned. Pre-orders are already open at several specialist retailers, and a number of them showed sold out as soon as the announcement landed.
No official recommended price had been announced at the time of writing. Battle Decks from previous years sat around the twenty euro mark, but the 30th anniversary label and the 60 shiny cards could shift that benchmark. Better to wait for the official figure than to trust pre-order listings, which vary wildly between retailers.
One practical note if you pre-order: these are announced in limited quantities and Battle Decks are generally not reprinted. They go out of stock fast, and the second-hand market takes over with the price gaps you would expect.
