Until November 19, 2026 at 1:59 a.m. UTC, Pokémon Legends: Z-A gives away a free Spewpa through Mystery Gift, no code needed. It evolves into a Vivillon wearing one of 16 patterns you cannot find in Lumiose City. And if trainers worldwide rack up 660,000 evolution points, everyone gets the Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon, a pattern last distributed in 2014.
The Pokémon Company launched the event on October 29, the release day of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension pack, which puts the game and its expansion on a single cartridge. A free Pokémon to celebrate a release is routine. A public worldwide counter with a numbered goal is not: the last time Pokémon tried something like this, the Fancy Pattern Vivillon was unlocked by 100 million GTS trades back in 2014. Here is everything worth knowing, dates and full pattern list included.
How do you claim the free Spewpa in Z-A?
Open the menu with X, then Link Play, Mystery Gift, and Via Internet. There is no code: the Spewpa lands directly in your game, once per save file, until Thursday, November 19, 2026 at 1:59 a.m. UTC. Your console needs an internet connection and a profile linked to a Nintendo Account.

The gift Spewpa arrives at level 11 knowing Tackle, String Shot, Protect and Stun Spore, with a Classic Ribbon as a keepsake. One detail that matters: Mystery Gift only unlocks after roughly an hour of play. If you just started your save, push through the early story first, the menu simply is not there before that.
And if you do not own the game yet, this October 29 release is exactly what the giveaway celebrates: the Switch 2 cartridge bundles Z-A and Mega Dimension together, with no download code to buy on top.
Which Vivillon patterns can this Spewpa give?
One pattern drawn at random out of 16, none of which can normally be found in Lumiose City. Meadow, Marine and Garden, already obtainable in the game, are excluded from the draw, and so is the Poké Ball Pattern, which is reserved for the global challenge reward. The draw happens when Spewpa evolves, not when you receive the gift.

The 16 possible patterns: Icy Snow, Polar, Tundra, Continental, Elegant, Modern, Archipelago, High Plains, Sandstorm, River, Monsoon, Savanna, Sun, Ocean, Jungle and Fancy. Yes, Fancy: a pattern that only ever existed through a 2014 distribution is back inside a random draw, which is a quiet little gift to collectors. In X and Y, your Vivillon's pattern depended on your console's real-world region; here, everything rides on this one Spewpa's evolution.

Here is the full picture of what Z-A lets you obtain:
| Patterns | How to get them in Z-A |
|---|---|
| Meadow, Marine, Garden | Already in the game: wild Spewpa and side missions, including the 13th Spewpa from the Lumiose Museum (Marine Pattern) |
| The other 16 patterns, Fancy included | The Mystery Gift Spewpa, one draw per save file, until November 19, 2026 |
| Poké Ball | Global challenge reward, if the 660,000-point goal is reached |
| Shiny forms | Possible, except for the Poké Ball Pattern, shiny-locked since day one |
One draw per save file, sixteen possible outcomes: it is unapologetically a collecting game, and I get the appeal. On our side of the screen, collecting means a display shelf: if yours has a free spot next to the console, the Eevee crystal LED Poké Ball at €29.99 runs on USB and sits anywhere, and the Espeon Poké Ball on a wood stand plays the same card in a warmer finish.
How does the 660,000-point global challenge work?
Every Spewpa that evolves into Vivillon adds points to a worldwide counter, refreshed hourly on the challenge website. If the total reaches 660,000 points, The Pokémon Company will distribute a Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon to all players, on a date to be announced separately.
The rule is broader than it looks: the Vivillon challenge page opens with "Collect 660,000 Vivillon Points" and counts every evolution, meaning Spewpa caught in wild zones and those from side missions count too once they evolve. Since the gift Spewpa sits at level 11 and evolves at level 12, a single battle is enough to do your part. Players share their finds under #VivillonChallenge.
A wink worth noticing: Vivillon is number 666 in the National Pokédex, the goal is set at 660,000 points, and the Pokémon Champions bonus covered below pays out 666 points. Somebody had fun calibrating this event.
Why is the Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon so sought after?
Because it has never been catchable in any game. The Poké Ball Pattern only ever existed through distributions: first at the pop-up Pokémon Center in Paris, June 4 to 21, 2014, then a short European Wi-Fi window from August 29 to September 8, 2014, on X and Y. Ever since, it only moved between collectors through Pokémon HOME trades.

Twelve years later, this challenge is the first mainstream chance to get one at the source, no trading required. And the 2014 parallel runs deeper: the Fancy Pattern, the other event pattern of that era, was given away to celebrate 100 million GTS trades. A worldwide community goal, already. The loop closes nicely, with Fancy now sitting inside the gift Spewpa's draw.

One last collector's note: the Poké Ball Pattern is shiny-locked. No point soft-resetting the Mystery Gift hoping for a shiny, it does not exist. Nintendo Life covered the distribution details when it went live.
What do you get for sending a Vivillon to Pokémon Champions?
Until January 31, 2027 at 2:59 p.m. UTC, transferring a Vivillon met in Z-A to Pokémon HOME and then to Pokémon Champions unlocks a Meadow Pattern Vivillon profile icon, 6 Training Tickets and 666 points of in-game currency. The Vivillon has to come from Z-A, a specimen from another game does not count.

That gives you the right order of operations: claim the Spewpa now, evolve it before November 19 to feed the challenge, then send a Vivillon to Champions before the end of January. Three rewards from a single evolution line, butterflies rarely pay this well.
And if this worldwide pattern hunt leaves you wanting some of that glow away from the screen, our light-up Poké Ball collection covers 29 Pokémon in engraved crystal, with free shipping across Europe. By the time the challenge counter fills up, yours will already be on the shelf.
