Mewtwo is coming to Pokémon Sleep in September 2026, at Greengrass Isle and its expert version. The Pokémon Company announced it on August 4 alongside a brand new Main Skill, Psystrike (Berry Zone), a starring role for Psychic-type helpers and a helping hand from Mew. When does Mewtwo arrive in Pokémon Sleep?
The Mewtwo event starts in September 2026 in Pokémon Sleep, at Greengrass Isle and Greengrass Isle (Expert). The news comes from the game's official website, published on August 4, 2026, but the exact start date has not been shared yet: only the month is confirmed for now.
There is something quietly funny about this announcement: Mewtwo, the lab-made Pokémon who spends an entire movie brooding without ever closing its eyes, is coming over for a nap. More seriously, this is a big catch for The Pokémon Company's sleep-tracking game: Mewtwo becomes the ninth Special Pokémon in the title, and one of the most requested since launch. For a sense of the likely format, the previous event of this scale, Cresselia vs. Darkrai, ran for two weeks, from March 31 to April 14, 2025. Nothing guarantees Mewtwo will follow the same pattern, but that is the usual scale for Special Pokémon events.
How do you meet Mewtwo during the event?
Mewtwo can be encountered during the September event at Greengrass Isle, in both its regular and expert versions. Two levers are already confirmed: Psychic-type helper Pokémon will be particularly effective throughout the event, and Mew assists with the research on Mewtwo's sleep style.
The announcement stops there, and it is worth saying plainly: we still do not know the exact encounter mechanics, how many nights it will take, or what you will need to accumulate to fill Mewtwo's friendship gauge. The Pokémon Company will detail all of that closer to the event, as it did for Cresselia and Darkrai. What is certain: building a Psychic-type team between now and September will not be wasted time, and players who already have Mew on their team will start with an edge on the research.

What does Psystrike (Berry Zone), Mewtwo's Main Skill, actually do?
Psystrike (Berry Zone) is a brand new Main Skill: when it triggers, Snorlax gains strength and a Berry Zone is created at the current research site. The official website specifies that "while this Berry Zone is active, the energy gained from Mago Berries is increased", the very berries that Psychic-type Pokémon collect.
Three details in the announcement make this skill more interesting than it first looks. The Berry Zone stays in place as long as you do not change sites, even if Mewtwo leaves the helper team: you can set up the zone, then free its slot for another Psychic-type Special Pokémon, Mew or Cresselia for instance. Every activation of the skill strengthens the zone until it reaches a cap. And since the effect targets Mago Berries, it rewards building a coherent Psychic team rather than stacking generic top helpers. This is exactly the kind of optimisation puzzle that keeps the community busy for weeks.
Which Legendary Pokémon are already in Pokémon Sleep?
Before Mewtwo, Pokémon Sleep counts eight Special Pokémon: Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Cresselia, Darkrai, Latias and Latios. The game's rule is strict: one Special Pokémon per helper team, with a single exception, Latias and Latios can share a team.

How do you get Mew before Mewtwo arrives?
Mew can be met on New Moon Day, a monthly Pokémon Sleep gathering tied to the lunar calendar. The August 4 announcement confirms this rendezvous will keep running every month until the Mewtwo event, plus a dedicated event to help newer players befriend Mew before September.
A welcome detail for those just starting out: the team is considering a system so that Mew friendship points earned during New Moon Day are not wasted. If you install Pokémon Sleep this summer, going for Mew first is the best route: you will benefit from its help during the Mewtwo research, and you will already own a Psychic-type Special Pokémon to feed the future Berry Zone.

How should you prepare before September?
Three concrete projects before the event: build a team of Psychic-type helpers, befriend Mew at the next New Moon Day, and, for advanced players, unlock Greengrass Isle (Expert) by raising your Snorlax rating to Master 18 on Greengrass Isle.
Expert mode has a price of entry: each research session costs Expert Tickets, exchanged for Sleep Points. In return, rewards go up, so do your chances of meeting a Shiny Pokémon, and Raikou appears more often. My frugal player's advice: if your Snorlax is not there yet, do not burn your Sleep Points on tickets now. The Mewtwo event also covers regular Greengrass Isle, available from the very start of the game, and nobody will be locked out of the encounter.

How does Pokémon Sleep work if you are not playing yet?
Pokémon Sleep is a free app on iOS and Android that tracks your sleep, with your phone next to the pillow or a smartwatch on your wrist. Each morning, your night attracts sleeping Pokémon around Snorlax, which you photograph and recruit. The better you sleep, the richer the haul.

The game sorts every night into sleep phases and gives it a score, which makes it a rather clever gateway to better bedtime habits, for children and adults alike. It is also, as far as I know, the only Pokémon game you get better at by switching your screen off earlier.
