Here is the detail Niantic's announcement does not even mention: Zorua never shows its true form on the map. It copies your Buddy Pokémon and only drops the act once caught. When is the Zorua Community Day and at what times?
The Zorua Community Day runs on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, the same window in every country. Three bonuses stretch further, until 9:00 p.m.: one-hour Lure Modules, the extra Special Trade, and the evolution window for the exclusive attack.
Autumn is packed in Pokémon GO: one week before Zorua, on October 3, the Gigantamax Cinderace Max Battle Day already claims the morning, and September closed with the animated series event featuring Charmander in glasses. Two Pokémon GO Saturdays in a single month: your legs have been warned.
How do you spot Zorua on the map? The Buddy trick
Zorua never appears as itself: on the map, it takes the shape of your current Buddy Pokémon, and the illusion holds through the entire catch screen. Only once the Poké Ball clicks shut does a little "Oh?" pop up, and the fox shows its real face.
Your Buddy does not need to be fed or walking beside you, simply being selected is enough, as the Pokémon GO Hub guide details. Hence the trick that makes the whole afternoon easier: set a Buddy you can never meet in the wild, a Legendary for instance. Every suspicious duplicate that pops up around the corner is then a guaranteed Zorua. During the event, with spawns boosted, the map literally fills with copies of your Buddy. It is quite a show.

Shiny Zorua: what are the odds?
Yes, shiny Zorua is in, with the boosted rate Community Days are known for: historical community research by The Silph Road placed that rate around 1 in 25, against roughly 1 in 500 on a normal day. You cannot scout it on the map though: the disguise hides the color too, the reveal only comes after the catch.
A reminder that explains the expected turnout: the shiny forms of Zorua and Zoroark have only existed in Pokémon GO since October 26, 2023, their debut Halloween did not include them. October 10 is therefore their very first mass spotlight. Two field tips: pop your Incense at 2:00 p.m. sharp to enjoy the full three hours, and save your Pinap Berries for Zorua. With doubled Candy and the berry doubling the haul again, every catch pays 12 Candy: the 50 needed for the evolution are done in five Zorua, transfers included.
Sucker Punch Zoroark: is the exclusive attack worth it?
Evolve Zorua during the event or up to four hours afterwards, so until 9:00 p.m. local time, and your Zoroark will know the Dark-type Fast Attack Sucker Punch. In the GO Battle League it deals 8 damage and generates 7 energy; in raids and Gyms, 5 damage for 6 energy.
Let's be honest about its value: Sucker Punch hits harder per hit than Snarl, Zoroark's reference fast attack, but it generates almost half the energy, 7 against 13. To charge Foul Play quickly, Snarl remains the ranked players' pick. And Zoroark itself is a crystal glass: one of the highest Attack stats in the game, a defense that folds at the first exchange, as the Pokémon GO Hub guide bluntly puts it. Sucker Punch is a collector's piece and an "I was there" stamp, not a meta shake-up. Which is already a fine reason to grab it.

Our straight take: if you collect special backgrounds or run short on Premium Passes, the two dollars pay for themselves fast. Otherwise the free event is plenty, especially since the Field Research tasks at PokéStops already hand out Zorua encounters, Ultra Balls and Stardust, according to Leek Duck's breakdown.
Why this Community Day fixes Zorua's botched debut
Zorua was supposed to arrive by surprise on October 25, 2022, in the middle of the Shuppet Spotlight Hour. A bug turned the party into a fiasco: wild Zorua copied not just the Buddy's appearance but also its CP, size and attacks. Niantic pulled the Pokémon in a hurry, cancelling the launch in most time zones, before a proper release on October 28, 2022.
The few Zorua caught that day, carrying another Pokémon's stats, were locked out of trading, Pokémon HOME transfers and the GO Battle League until Niantic corrected their values, as Nintendo Life and GameSpot reported at the time. Zoroark, for its part, arrived without a hitch on October 27, 2022 with Halloween Part 2. Four years later, this Community Day is the first full day dedicated to the fox, and this time the disguise is a designed mechanic, not a bug.
For the lore-minded: Zorua and Zoroark hail from Unova, and their Illusion ability made waves as early as 2010, when Zoroark became the very first Generation 5 Pokémon shown to the public, headlining the movie Zoroark: Master of Illusions. Fifteen years on, the act still works.

Can you see shiny Zorua on the map during the event?
No. Zorua's disguise hides its color too: on the map and on the catch screen, you see your Buddy Pokémon in its regular look. The color only reveals itself after the catch, the moment the illusion drops. A shiny Buddy does not raise your odds either, it just makes the copies easier to spot.
Until what time can Zoroark learn Sucker Punch?
Until 9:00 p.m. local time on October 10, 2026: the announcement grants four hours after the event ends to evolve Zorua into a Zoroark that knows the exclusive attack. After that, you will need an Elite Fast TM, or to wait for a possible rerun of the attack during an end-of-year recap event.
How many Candy does Zorua need to evolve?
50 Zorua Candy. During the event, catch Candy is doubled and the Pinap Berry doubles the haul again: every Zorua caught with a berry pays 12 Candy, so the evolution is settled in about five catches, transfers included. Keep a few spare Candy if you are also chasing a shiny Zoroark.
Does my Buddy need to be on the map for Zorua to appear?
No. Zorua copies the Buddy Pokémon selected in your profile, no feeding or walking required. Switching Buddies instantly changes the appearance of the Zorua that spawn next: all the more reason to pick one nobody ever meets in the wild.
Is Hisuian Zorua part of the event?
No, the Community Day announcement only mentions the classic Dark-type Zorua from Unova. Hisuian Zorua, Normal and Ghost type, does exist in Pokémon GO but is not on the October 10 program. Its appearances remain tied to other in-game events.
Do the trade bonuses last all day?
