A Pokémon MMO bringing together Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kitakami reportedly exists at Game Freak under the codename Project Seed, according to leaks. Nothing has been announced. Centro Leaks' September 17, 2026 post argues from recent games, with no title, no platform and no date.
For several days, gaming sites have been presenting that post as a new leak. It is more nuanced than that: there is a 2024 hack, a slide from October 2025, a March 2026 summary and a September line of reasoning. I untangle those layers date by date, and I update this page if Game Freak, Nintendo or The Pokémon Company say anything.
What is Project Seed, the Pokémon MMO in the leak?
Project Seed is the codename of a Game Freak project described in an October 2025 leak as "a prototyping project for a next-generation online game playable by multiple people, set in a region that connects Hoenn and Sinnoh." It is a prototype of an online game, not an announced game and not a remake.
It all starts with a hack. In August 2024, internal Game Freak documents were stolen, and much of it circulated online from October 2024 under the name Teraleak. The studio confirmed the breach, which also exposed the data of 2,606 employees and contractors according to Game World Observer. On October 13, 2025, the leaker Centro Leaks published what he presents as Game Freak's roadmap through 2030, drawn from the same batch, including the Seed slide.
Caution, which Engadget already voiced in October 2025: these documents "may not be an accurate reflection" of the studio's real plans, and some date from 2020. A prototyping slide that is several years old is not a release schedule.
Which regions and what release date for the Pokémon MMO?
According to Centro Leaks, Seed would join Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kitakami in a single world, releasing "2029 or later." None of it is confirmed, and the accounts already diverge: Engadget reported 2028 in October 2025, then Centro Leaks wrote 2029 or later.

Kitakami is the region from The Teal Mask expansion of Scarlet and Violet, per TheGamer. CBR stretches the list with Paldea, Galar, Alola, Kalos and more, without citing a source: I stick to the five regions in the March post.
Does the September 17, 2026 post reveal a new leak?
No, it shows no new document. Centro Leaks writes that Game Freak has been "preparing us for Pokémon's transition to a full MMORPG for years" and lists three steps: random trainers visible in some areas in Generation 8, online interaction across the whole map in Generation 9, MMO-style quests and co-op in Generation 10. Dexerto notes that it gives no title, platform or release window.
The third point deserves a second look. It closely resembles what the October 2025 leak already said about early Generation 10 builds: an MMO-style lobby with quest boards, again according to Engadget. So the source is the same, not a second source confirming the first. On timing, outlets contradict each other: CBR mentions a launch with Winds and Waves or in Generation 11, while Dexerto reports a reply from the leaker that places it later.
My take: this post is a reading, sharp or not, of where the games are heading. Online features really did grow from Sword and Shield to Scarlet and Violet. That proves a direction, not a product.
Where does this MMO fit next to Pokémon Winds and Waves?
After, or alongside, with no certainty at all. Pokémon Winds and Waves, Generation 10, is announced for 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2 with no exact date. A project still in pre-production according to the leaks cannot ship before it, and nobody says it would reuse its regions.

That is where the multiplayer question will play out first, since the October 2025 leak mentions an MMO-style lobby in early builds of the game.
Can you already play a massively online Pokémon game?
Yes, but not from Game Freak. PokeMMO is a free fan project available on computer and mobile, unrelated to The Pokémon Company. Aniimo, which we cover in our review of this free Steam Pokémon-like, is another monster-catching game with its own creatures. In both cases, it is not Pokémon.
Meanwhile, two of the leak's regions already have their Pokémon here: the Lugia LED Pokéball with wooden stand for Johto and the Garchomp LED Pokéball with wooden stand for Sinnoh. The rest lives in the light-up Pokéball collection. Nothing before 2029 according to the leaks, so nothing that changes what you buy this winter.
