The Biggest and Heaviest Pokémon in the Pokédex

The biggest Pokémon is Eternatus, at 65'07" (20.0 m) and 2,094.4 lbs (950.0 kg). The heaviest is Cosmoem, at 2,204.4 lbs (999.9 kg) and just four inches tall, tied with Celesteela. Below are the 50 biggest and the 45 heaviest in the National Dex, with every figure in both imperial and metric.

These are two different questions, and they have two different answers: heavy and tall barely overlap. Heights start here, weights here. Gigantamax, Mega Evolution and the rest of the temporary forms have their own section, because folding them into the main list makes it meaningless.

What is the biggest Pokémon?

Eternatus is the biggest Pokémon in the Pokédex at 65'07", or 20.0 metres. Wailord follows at 47'07", then Dondozo at 39'04" and Alolan Exeggutor at 35'09". Those four are the only standard-form Pokémon that clear ten metres.

One methodology note, because it changes the order. This list takes one row per species, in its tallest standard form, which includes regional variants and alternate formes: School Form Wishiwashi, Origin Forme Giratina, Hoopa Unbound. Mega Evolutions, Primal Reversions, Gigantamax and Eternamax are temporary battle transformations, so they are pulled out into their own section rather than allowed to distort the ranking. Ties break on weight.

The 15 biggest Pokémon, one by one

1. Eternatus, 65'07"

Eternatus stands 65'07" (20.0 m) and weighs 2,094.4 lbs (950.0 kg). Nothing else in a standard form is close: the runner-up gives up eighteen feet. The final boss of Sword and Shield is also the reason Galar has Dynamax at all, since the energy pouring out of its core is what makes Pokémon grow in that region. Note the weight: 950.0 kg, not 999.9. That mistake is everywhere, and there is a section on it below.

2. Wailord, 47'07"

Wailord measures 47'07" (14.5 m) and weighs only 877.4 lbs (398.0 kg). That ratio is the whole story. A real sperm whale of that length runs to forty tons or more; Wailord weighs about as much as a grand piano. The Pokédex handles it by making the body mostly hollow, which is also how it justifies Wailord breaching clean out of the water. It is the largest Pokémon you can actually catch in the wild, no story battle required.

3. Dondozo, 39'04"

Dondozo comes in at 39'04" (12.0 m) and 485.0 lbs (220.0 kg). It arrived with Scarlet and Violet and quietly took third place, which is why most of the biggest-Pokémon lists floating around still do not mention it: they were written before 2023 and never updated. Its gimmick is Tatsugiri, a tiny sushi-shaped Pokémon that parks itself in Dondozo's mouth and steers, the only commander-and-vessel pairing in the games.

4. Alolan Exeggutor, 35'09"

Alolan Exeggutor reaches 35'09" (10.9 m) and 916.2 lbs (415.6 kg). The Kanto version tops out at 6'07". No other regional variant comes anywhere near that gap, and Game Freak clearly knew it was funny: the Alolan form grows a fourth head on the end of its tail that fights independently of the other three. Grass/Dragon, the only one in the series.

5. Celesteela, 30'02"

Celesteela measures 30'02" (9.2 m) and weighs 2,204.4 lbs (999.9 kg), the hard ceiling of the Pokédex. It is the only Pokémon that sits near the top of both lists on this page. The Ultra Beast moves by venting gas from the two enormous bamboo arms it keeps folded at its sides, and the launch-vehicle look is deliberate: Ultra Beasts were designed to look like nothing else in the National Dex.

6. Steelix, 30'02"

Steelix also hits 30'02" (9.2 m), at 881.8 lbs (400.0 kg). Ties break on weight here, so Celesteela edges ahead. Evolving from Onix buys Steelix sixteen inches and nearly doubles its mass as rock turns to steel. The Pokédex puts it more than half a mile underground, which is the in-universe excuse for that absurd Defense stat and its equally absurd Speed.

7. Onix, 28'10"

Onix is 28'10" (8.8 m) and 463.0 lbs (210.0 kg). It held the title of largest Pokémon in the games for two full generations, and it is still the biggest of the original 151 in their Kanto forms. The height-to-weight gap is the widest in this top ten: nearly twenty-nine feet of solid rock that weighs about as much as three adults. The Pokédex has it burrowing at over fifty miles an hour by swallowing the soil in front of it.

8. Wishiwashi (School Form), 26'11"

In School Form, Wishiwashi reaches 26'11" (8.2 m) and 173.3 lbs (78.6 kg). On its own it is 8 inches and less than a pound. It is the only entry on this list whose size comes from a crowd rather than a body: the Schooling ability pulls the shoal together whenever it is above a quarter of its HP and at least level 20. The Alolan Pokédex claims a formed school will drive off a Gyarados, which, given the numbers below, is not a small boast.

9. Origin Forme Dialga, 23'00"

Origin Forme Dialga stands 23'00" (7.0 m) and weighs 1,871.1 lbs (848.7 kg). You will not find it on a single one of the big biggest-Pokémon lists, even though it beats the familiar form by five feet and ranks fourth by weight among standard forms. It shows up in Pokémon Legends: Arceus when Dialga loses its grip on its own control of time. Regular Dialga is 17'09" and 1,505.8 lbs.

10. Rayquaza, 23'00"

Rayquaza measures 23'00" (7.0 m) and 455.3 lbs (206.5 kg). The ozone-layer dragon is by far the longest of the Hoenn trio and by far the lightest, which is the point: it is built to live in the sky while Groudon and Kyogre are built to sit on the planet. Mega Rayquaza climbs to 35'05", the tallest Mega Evolution in the games, and it gets its own section further down. It is also the Rayquaza LED Poké Ball that leaves our shelves fastest.

11. Origin Forme Giratina, 22'08"

In its Origin Forme, Giratina is 22'08" (6.9 m) and 1,433.0 lbs. Switch to Altered Forme and it drops to 14'09" but climbs to 1,653.5 lbs: nearly eight feet shorter, 220 pounds heavier. We wrote a full piece on Giratina if you want the lore behind that.

12. Hoopa Unbound, 21'04"

Hoopa Unbound measures 21'04" (6.5 m) and 1,080.3 lbs, against 1'08" and 19.8 lbs for Confined. That is the second most extreme jump in the Pokédex after Wishiwashi, and it takes the Prison Bottle to trigger.

13. Gyarados, 21'04"

Gyarados is 21'04" (6.5 m) and 518.1 lbs. Magikarp, which it evolves from, is 2'11" and 22.0 lbs: seven times shorter, twenty-three times lighter, and no other evolution in the series makes a jump like that. Mega Gyarados, for its part, does not gain a single inch. It just puts on 154 pounds.

14. Origin Forme Palkia, 20'08"

Origin Forme Palkia is 20'08" (6.3 m) and 1,452.8 lbs, against 13'09" and 740.8 lbs for the standard form. Same jump as Dialga, and for the same reason: Legends: Arceus redrew both guardians longer, lower and considerably bigger.

15. Milotic, 20'04"

Milotic measures 20'04" (6.2 m) and 357.1 lbs (162.0 kg). Watch that weight. A figure of 126 kg circulates on a lot of pages, including the earlier version of this one, and it is simply a transposition of the digits: the games say 162.0 kg.

All 50 of the biggest Pokémon, ranked

Fifty entries, tallest first, with National Dex number, type, generation and both unit systems. The cutoff is 9'10" (3.0 m). Three more Pokémon hit that exact mark and missed the table on the weight tiebreak: Therian Forme Thundurus (134.5 lbs), Dragapult (110.2 lbs) and Galarian Weezing, which manages 9'10" at 35.3 lbs, comfortably the strangest ratio in the Pokédex.

Two things jump out of the table. Generation 7 puts ten Pokémon in it and Generation 9 puts nine, which is the opposite of the common complaint that the newer designs have got smaller. And Dragon shows up in seventeen of the fifty rows, well clear of Water on nine and Steel on six.

What is the heaviest Pokémon?

The heaviest Pokémon are Cosmoem and Celesteela, tied at 2,204.4 lbs (999.9 kg). That is the ceiling: no standard form in the Pokédex is listed above it. Eternatus and Groudon come next at 2,094.4 lbs, then Mudsdale at 2,028.3 lbs.

Cosmoem deserves a paragraph of its own, because it single-handedly kills the assumption that big means heavy. It is four inches tall, the minimum height in the games, and it weighs 2,204.4 lbs, the maximum weight. It fits in your palm and weighs as much as a small car. The Pokédex explains this as its own matter compressed to the limit, and the numbers back the story up: Cosmog, the stage before it, is twice as tall and weighs 0.2 lbs, roughly ten thousand times less. No other Pokémon sits at the top of one list and the bottom of the other.

All 45 of the heaviest Pokémon, ranked

Same method as the height list: one row per species, standard forms, cutting off at 684.5 lbs (310.5 kg). Fusions such as Ice Rider Calyrex, Black and White Kyurem and Dusk Mane Necrozma are held back for the section below.

Two surprises in there. Mudsdale, an ordinary draft horse with no legendary status whatsoever, weighs 2,028.3 lbs, more than Kyogre and Rayquaza put together. And Probopass, all 4'07" of it, holds 35th place at 749.6 lbs, which means three floating iron noses outweigh Arceus.

Gigantamax, Mega Evolution and Eternamax: the forms that sit outside the ranking

The largest Pokémon in any form is Eternamax Eternatus at 328'01" (100.0 m). Second place goes to Gigantamax Centiskorch at 246'01" (75.0 m) or more, and that one does not appear on a single one of the major English pages covering this topic.

These forms sit outside the main list because they last one battle and the Pokédex refuses to give them a weight: Gigantamax entries show a height followed by "or more" and a weight of ????.? lbs. Any database showing a flat 1,000.0 kg for a Gigantamax form is displaying a placeholder, not game data.

Centiskorch is the outlier of the group by a mile. In its normal form the fire centipede is 9'10". Gigantamax, it clears 246 feet, nearly three times the height of Gigantamax Charizard at 91'10" and close to twice the next-tallest Gigantamax of all, Duraludon at 141'01". The reason is anatomical: Dynamax stretches Centiskorch segment by segment down its length instead of bulking it out, so the same energy buys far more Pokémon.

On the weight side, Primal Groudon lands at 2,203.9 lbs, seven ounces short of the record, and Mega Metagross packs 2,078.7 lbs into 8'02". Mega Rayquaza stays the tallest Mega Evolution at 35'05", which is the form we engraved into the Mega Rayquaza crystal Poké Ball. Among the fusions, Ice Rider Calyrex weighs 1,783.8 lbs, Dusk Mane Necrozma 1,014.1 lbs, and White Kyurem measures 11'10" against 9'10" for base Kyurem, whose original trio we covered in Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem.

The eight Pokémon that are four inches tall

There is no single smallest Pokémon: eight species share the minimum height of 0'04" (0.1 m). They are Joltik, Flabebe, Cutiefly, Comfey, Sinistea, Poltchageist, Roaming Form Gimmighoul and Cosmoem.

The tier is worth knowing for one reason: it shows the games round off. The Pokédex does not go below four inches, and seven of those eight weigh between 0.2 and 2.4 lbs. The eighth weighs 2,204.4. Nothing else in the National Dex holds both extremes at once.

Where these numbers come from, and which ones are wrong everywhere else

Every figure on this page comes from the National Pokédex entries as the games print them, cross-checked across Bulbapedia, Pokémon Database and the public PokéAPI dataset. The feet, inches and pounds are the values from the English releases rather than conversions we ran ourselves, which matters: the two disagree by an inch here and there because of how the games round internally.

Three errors turn up again and again and are worth naming. First: Eternatus weighs 950.0 kg, not 999.9 kg. The page currently ranking first for "biggest pokemon" has the wrong number, almost certainly by confusing Eternatus with the Pokédex ceiling. Second: Milotic weighs 162.0 kg, and the 126 kg you often see, including in the earlier version of this page, is a transposition of those digits. Third: any list written before 2023 is missing Dondozo, which belongs in third place, and anything from before 2022 is missing the Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia.

One limitation we will own up to: this ranks the height and weight the Pokédex declares, not what you see on screen. The 3D models in the recent games do not track the data consistently, and a Wailord in battle has never been forty-seven feet relative to the field it is standing on.
